Packers beat Ravens 27-14
December 8th, 2009 | by adamburnett |The Packers beat the Ravens 27-14 in one of the sloppiest games I have ever seen. The 23 penalties for 310 yards tied for the second highest yardage total in NFL history with a Bucs-Seahawks expansion game back in 1976. The Ravens had 185 yards in total offense and 135 yards in penalties. Packers corner Tramon Williams was completely torched despite making 4 tackles and an interception. Expect him to continue to get picked on each week. A.J. Hawk had 7 total tackles and an interception. The Ohio State product played well in coverage on tight end Todd Heap. Clay Matthews continues to shine each week, this time with 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. Nick Collins also chipped in with an interception. The Packers defense frustrated Joe Flacco as he completed 15 of 36 for 137 yards, just 2 more than the team’s penalty yardage. Ray Rice never got going with 71 total yards. Brad Jones had 4 tackles and a sack and in the postgame Matt Millen said that the Packers are better off with Jones over Aaron Kampman. I was impressed with Jones, but praise from Millen isn’t a good sign.
The Packers offense shredded the Ravens zone coverage with Jermichael Finley’s 7 catches for 79 yards and 2 scores. Greg Jennings caught 6 balls for 77 yards and burned the Ravens with slants. Aaron Rodgers completed 26 of 40 for 263 yards, 3 scores and 2 picks. The rushing attack generated 94 yards, but mostly was used to keep the Ravens defense honest. Donald Driver caught 3 balls for 31 yards and a score. Double “D” had a hand in multiple turnovers. He fumbled and had a pass hit off his leg that was intercepted by Jarrett Johnson. The offensive line did a terrific job keeping Rodgers clean with only 1 sack allowed. Green Bay controlled the game with the short passing attack 35:22 to 24:38.
The Packers improve to 8-4 while the Ravens drop to 6-6. Week 14, has the Packers in Chicago. The Bears are coming off a 17-9 win over the St. Louis Rams. After the Bears, their in Pittsburgh, at home against Seattle, and finish the regular season in Arizona.
